Uninvited from what?

Busy days happen, but that’s only half of an excuse. As a result, two posts today: one this morning, one later tonight.

I love a film with a good twist. The only downside is that it’s hard to talk about a movie with a twist without giving away the entire surprise. What can I say about a film when I can’t tell you my favorite part? Especially since I want to compare it to another film with a similar twist, but that’s the only thing they have in common. Spoiler warning much?

Anyway, two nights ago Miller and I watched The Uninvited together. I wanted to see his reaction to the aforementioned twist at the end. He got really close to correctly guessing it about twenty minutes in, but he had too many theories so it was easy for me to derail him. The first time I saw it, I couldn’t guess it, but in the few years since I think there may be some more precedent. So you might call it early, I don’t know.

Apart from the twist, Emily Browning’s and Elizabeth Banks’s performances are major selling points. There’s a subtlety to them both that was lost to me on a first and even second viewing. It’s worth watching The Uninvited a few times to try and catch all the foreshadowing you might have missed the first time through. The plot is fairly standard for genre horror, so if that’s not your jam, it probably still won’t be. But it’s not the worst horror movie of all time, and it’s actually got some pretty chilling moments. Definitely worth at least one watch in my opinion. The only thing I really don’t get is the title.
